LIVE GAS TUNING
IN UTAH

Tuned live. In real time. Every gas vehicle we tune is dialed in on the dyno while it runs — the tuner at the keyboard, pull after pull, watching what your engine actually does. Not a file written from a spec sheet and emailed to you.

What Live Tuning Means

THE CAR IS ON THE ROLLERS WHILE IT'S BEING TUNED

This is the whole difference, so it is worth being plain about it. A remote tune is written in advance from what you typed into a form. A live tune is written in front of the engine, and corrected the moment the engine disagrees.

01

YOU TELL US THE CAR

Year, make, model, engine, VIN, every modification — plus the two that decide everything on a gas build: the fuel you actually run and the power adder.

02

WE QUOTE THE SESSION

Within 24 hours you get an itemized package back — the tuning, the dyno time and anything else, each as its own line. Dyno time is booked in two-hour blocks, and the quote says how many we are setting aside.

03

WE GET YOU ON THE SCHEDULE

Paying the tuning portion locks your date in against the tuner's calendar and ours. You bring the car on the day — this is an appointment, not a drop-off.

04

YOU'RE THERE ON THE ROLLERS

The car is strapped down and tuned live while you watch it happen — most owners drive their own pulls. Fuel, timing and boost get worked pull after pull, and you leave with a sheet showing exactly what it made.

HOW LONG IT TAKES

Gas sessions are booked in two-hour blocks. A clean naturally aspirated car often fits in one; a boosted build on E85, or a car that needs its converter and trans sorted alongside the engine, usually wants two or more. Your quote says how many we have set aside.

A live tune runs at the pace the engine sets. If we need to go past the block you bought, any additional time above the quote is approved by you before we proceed — you will never find it on a bill at the end. 801-505-9199

WHY THIS MATTERS ON A GAS ENGINE

Gas engines are knock-limited. How much timing yours will take depends on your fuel, your intake air temperature, your compression and the exact combination of parts on it — and no two cars answer that question the same way, even when the spec sheets match.

Tuning it live means the answer is measured on your engine instead of guessed at conservatively. That is where the safe power is.

What You Get

REAL NUMBERS, REAL CONDITIONS

TUNED IN REAL TIME

Changes made and verified while the engine runs, not written blind beforehand. Every gas vehicle, every time.

📊

DYNO-VERIFIED POWER

Measured on our chassis dyno. You see what the tune actually did, pull by pull, and you leave with the sheet.

WRITTEN FOR YOUR FUEL

91, 93, E85, race gas or a multi-map setup for switching between them. The fuel you run changes the whole calibration.

🌀

BOOST & NITROUS AWARE

Supercharged, turbocharged or on a bottle — boost, timing and fuel get resolved together, live, which is the only way they resolve correctly.

TRANS & CONVERTER

On a high-power automatic the shift points, line pressure and torque management are part of the job, not an afterthought.

Platforms

IF IT RUNS ON GAS, SEND IT THROUGH

Our request form is platform-agnostic on purpose — give us the year, engine and VIN and we will tell you plainly what is workable.

What It Costs

QUOTED BY HAND, SPLIT IN TWO

We do not publish gas tuning prices, because a number on a page would be wrong for almost every car. What we can tell you is exactly how the money is structured.

Due up front

THE TUNING

The tuning line reserves your tuner and the dyno for a live session. It is charged in full up front and is non-refundable once your session is booked.

Paying it is what puts you on the calendar.

Due on the day

DYNO SESSION & EVERYTHING ELSE

The dyno block, any additional labor, and any parts or hardware are quoted as their own lines and settled on the day.

If the session runs long because of a mechanical issue or a more complex setup, any additional time above the quote will be approved by you before we proceed.

WHO ACTUALLY DOES THE TUNING

Utah Dyno Shop facilitates custom tuning — we are not the tuner. We coordinate the session, provide the chassis dyno and run the pulls. The calibration itself is developed and supported by our independent tuning partner.

That is why tuning appears as its own line item on every quote rather than being folded into a single number: you can see what you are buying, and from whom.

Before You Start

WHAT WE'LL ASK YOU FOR

Worth having to hand before you open the form — it takes about five minutes if you do.

Vehicle & engine
Year, make, model and engine, plus transmission and drivetrain.
VIN
All 17 characters — driver-side dash or door jamb.
The fuel you'll run
87, 91, 93, E85, race gas, or a flex setup. Tell us what you will actually put in it every day. A tune written for 91 and then fed 87 is a knock event waiting to happen.
Power adder
Naturally aspirated, supercharged, turbocharged, nitrous, or a combination. This changes the entire shape of the session.
Tuning platform
Which software the car gets tuned with — HP Tuners, EFI Live, SCT, DiabloSport, Cobb, Holley, or a standalone ECU. Tell us whether you already own the interface and credits, because if you don't, we quote them as their own line rather than folding them into a number. Not sure which yours takes? Say so and we will tell you.
Every modification
Cam, heads, intake, headers, exhaust, injectors, pumps, pulley, intercooler, meth. A tune written for parts that are not on the car is how engines get hurt.
Converter & trans work
Stall speed and converter brand, or clutch setup. Any valve body, shift kit or trans build. On a high-power automatic this is half the job.
Your goal
Daily driving, street performance, competition — and in your own words, what you want the car to do differently.
When you can be here
A preferred date, and enough of the day to see the session through — sessions run in two-hour blocks and you are staying with the car, not dropping it off. Final availability depends on the tuner's schedule as well as ours, so nothing is reserved until your quote is paid.

Where We Are

GAS DYNO TUNING IN TOOELE, UTAH

The dyno is at 1885 E Ave in Tooele — about forty minutes from downtown Salt Lake City straight out I-80. A live session means you are here for it, so the drive is worth knowing about up front.

SALT LAKE VALLEY

30–50 minutes

Salt Lake City, West Valley City, West Jordan, South Jordan, Sandy, Draper, Murray, Taylorsville, Magna and Herriman. Close enough that a two-hour block is a morning, not a whole day off work.

WASATCH FRONT & BACK

50–90 minutes

Ogden, Layton, Clearfield, Roy, Bountiful and Farmington to the north; Provo, Orem, Lehi, American Fork, Spanish Fork and Payson to the south; Park City and Heber City over the pass. If you are driving in on a built car, tell us on the form and we will book the block so you are not sitting on the schedule.

THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST

Idaho · Wyoming · Nevada

Tooele sits on I-80 at the western edge of the state, which makes it a straightforward target from out of state. Cars come in from Idaho Falls, Pocatello and Boise, from Evanston, Rock Springs and Star Valley in Wyoming, and from Elko, Wendover and Las Vegas in Nevada — trailered and driven both.

Traveling in or towing the car? Say so on the request form. We will build the session around your drive so the block starts when you actually arrive.

Questions

GAS TUNING FAQ

There is no flat rate, because a naturally aspirated LS on pump gas and a boosted build on E85 are not the same day of work. Send the car through our tuning request form and you get an itemized quote back within 24 hours, with the tuning, the dyno session and anything else priced as separate lines so you can see exactly what each part costs.
In real time. Every gas vehicle we tune is strapped to our chassis dyno and dialed in live — the tuner is at the keyboard while the car is on the rollers, making changes between pulls and watching what the engine actually does with each one. Nothing is pre-written and emailed to you.
We build gas sessions in two-hour blocks, and your quote says how many we have set aside. A straightforward naturally aspirated car often lands inside one. A boosted build on E85, or anything with a converter and transmission work to sort out alongside the engine, usually wants two or more. You are here for it, so plan the day around the block rather than squeezing it between other things — a live tune runs at the pace the engine sets, and rushing one is how things get missed. If we need to go past the block you bought, any additional time above the quote will be approved by you before we proceed — nothing gets added to a bill after the fact.
Yes — that is the point of tuning it live. You are here for the session watching it happen, and most owners end up driving their own pulls. It is your car, your right foot, and you get to see exactly what each change did rather than reading about it afterwards. If you would rather someone else drive, say so and we will sort it.
Whichever your vehicle actually takes. HP Tuners covers most modern GM, Ford and Mopar; EFI Live, SCT, DiabloSport, Cobb and the standalone ECUs all have their place, and a swapped or standalone car is its own conversation. We ask on the request form which platform you intend to use, and whether you already own the interface and credits — some platforms need per-vehicle credits, and if you do not have them we quote them as a separate line rather than burying them. If you have no idea which one your car takes, pick "not sure" and we will tell you.
Whatever you will actually run, every day. A tune written for 91 and then fed 87 is a knock event waiting to happen, and a tune written for pump gas will not take advantage of E85. If you want to switch between fuels, say so — that is a multi-map setup and we will quote it that way.
Yes. Power adders are exactly the case where live tuning earns its keep — boost, timing and fuel all interact, and the only way to get them right is to watch the engine respond in real time. Tell us the power adder on the form and we will build the session around it.
On a high-power gas automatic the trans calibration matters as much as the engine one, so tell us the stall speed, converter, and any valve body or build work on the request form. Shift points, line pressure and torque management are all part of what gets dialed in.
Our dyno is two-wheel-drive only, so the car has to be able to run in two-wheel drive for the pulls. Check yours before booking — it is the one thing that will stop a session on the day.
1885 E Ave in Tooele, Utah — about forty minutes from downtown Salt Lake City straight out I-80. Cars come to us from across the Wasatch Front — Salt Lake, Ogden, Layton, Provo, Park City — and regularly from right across the Intermountain West, with owners driving in from Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada for a session. If you are traveling a distance, say so on the form and we will build the day around your drive.
